We got the week of North Alabama fishing started with blue cats on Wilson Lake. Less water was running through Wilson Dam than guide Brian Barton would have preferred, but we still managed to connect with half a dozen cats in half a day. We caught our fish on cut skipjack, fished directly beneath the boat and suspended just off the bottom in 50 to 60 feet of water.
Tomorrow's fishing starts early with the first light smallmouth bite below Wheeler Dam. Word has it they're hitting topwater lures and YUMBrella rigs. Big promise for major fun.
