Rain Keeps Coming

The rain has been falling pretty steadily for a couple of days in North Georgia, and more is in the forecast. While I think our mountain streams might surge too high for the trout fishing I'd hoped to do this week, that's definitely good news for the fish and for big-picture fishing opportunities around here. Our streams and especially our reservoirs have been running low, so I certainly can't complain about a day of fishing being rained out.

And I'm not actually even certain that I won't go fishing. Some rivers won't even be accessible, but others can be fished from the edges, even at very high levels, as long as you pick your spots carefully, and the trout fishing can be very good. The high water pushes fish into predictable locations and causes them to feed more aggressively on larger offerings. The main challenges are accessing spots and making quality presentations through likely fishing holding areas when the river is really ripping.

The more I think about it, the more I think I might have to give it a try. I could use some fresh photos that illustrate high-water conditions. If I do, I'll report how it goes.
