Last week's Bassmaster Open on Lake Toho and the Everstart that took place a couple of weeks ago on Lake Okeechobee certainly got some bass fishing fans looking south, but this week's action brings 2013 tournament fishing to a higher level. The FLW Tour season begins Thursday with a major on Okeechobee, and the tour pros are currently in the middle of their third day of Big O practice. With only five FLW Tour major on this year's schedule, each event is important to points and to potential Forrest Wood Cup qualification.
Okeechobee is currently in very good condition, with plenty of big fish in it. Weather will probably be the biggest determinant of what types of strategies prevail and the size of the bags that anglers bring to the scales. Late-winter fishing in Florida is extremely weather dependant, and fronts can turn the fish into very tough customers.
I know I'll be watching the results as they come in later this week. I'm curious not only about who will prevail but about what sort of strategies will end getting the job done.
