Forrest Wood Cup competitors are practicing close to my home today, but I'm about 800 miles away. The 4-day competition begins Thursday on Lake Sidney Lanier, with 46 of the nation's top pros fishing for a 1/2-million dollar prize and the title of world champion.

I'll be in Michigan through Friday night because of the passing of my father-in-law, but hope to get to the Gwinnett Center on Sunday for the final day expo and weigh-in. In the meantime I'll be reading practice reports and following what I can from afar. From what I hear, it has been very hot, and the lake has been crowded with pleasure boaters and fishermen alike -- neither of which are big surprises when you're talking about Lake Lanier in August.
