El Salto Underway

Today began with a 2 a.m. alarm and a 95-mile driven to the Atlanta airport. Flight from Atlanta was smooth, but the Dallas to Mexico leg involved a two gate changes, a change of aircraft due to mechanical problems and an hour of sitting on a runway. Immigration and customs were pleasantly simple, and the two-hour ride to the lodge was.fascinating.

The reward at the end of long travel, beyond simply being at Anglers Inn, was that we got to slip out for the last couple of hours of the day. I caught 10 bass, mostly 3- and 4-pounders, plus two tilapia, which are new on this year's species list.

Tomorrow we'll hit it full steam and hopefully will find a giant. Wake-up is at 4:45, and I've now been up 22 hours. I guess I'd better go sleep a while.
